The department has passed through so many rigors, whose effect has helped it metamorphose from the Department of Archaeology and History to the Department of Archaeology, and then to the Department of Archaeology and Tourism. Presently, the department has two degree programs, which are archaeology and heritage studies and tourism studies. All these efforts were aimed at sustaining the department and keeping it marketable and relevant to subscribers. This first event is rewarding and memorable if you take advantage of the opportunity. It is an excellent opportunity to interact with fellow students, faculty members, and most importantly, alumni! The festivities set a perfect atmosphere for meeting new people, no-pressure networking, creating new memories, reconnecting with old friends, determining the next alumni meeting, having fun, and supporting a cause. As an alumnus of this great department, it is obvious that the department has impacted you, and there is a need for you to reciprocate by giving back to the department in order to keep it functional and grow to an enviable height.
At this juncture, in a very special way I want to thank the university administration for their undeniable
support; the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe, the DVC administration Prof. P. U.
Okpoko, Dean of Arts, Prof. Paul Obi-Ani, the Head of Department of Archaeology and Tourism Dr.
Elochukwu A. Nwankwo Whyte, Chief James Otti Chairman of the occasion, Royal father of the day and
distinguished guest of honour, His Royal Majesty Igwe Samuel Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi), the Traditional Ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom, keynote speaker Professor Ifeanyinwa Emejulu, Department of History and International Studies, NnamdiAzikwe University, Awka, Anambra State, members of the Local Organizing Committee, the Chairman Diaspora Committee, Chief Maduabuchi Kingsley (Onowu na Nze) and members, and our highly esteemed alumni, distinguished Professors and other academics and non-teaching staff. To the homecoming planning committee members: I will want to work with great minds like yours in my next assignment, Great Lions and Lionesses.
I will reiterate that this 2023 maiden homecoming of the Department of Archaeology and Tourism,
despite all challenges, was a success and historical simply because you all made it so. May God bless you richly and grant each and every one of us safety back to our various destinations.
